Civcon were engaged to undertake the Perry Lakes Water Replenishment – Design and Construct Project. The purpose of the works was to permanently re-establish historic water levels in the lakes. This was done by diverting excess water from the Herdsman Main Drain into Perry Lakes by upgrading and improving existing drainage infrastructure and installing a new pump station next to Newman College. The diversion extends approximately 1.4km from the Herdsman Main Drain at Newman College (the proposed take-off point) to the existing stormwater drainage network at McLean Park, near the intersection of Ulster Road and The Boulevard.

The water from the Herdsman Main Drain was previously lost out to sea, so the opportunity was identified to make better use of the water. The diverted water entering the stormwater drainage network now successfully discharges into the lakes.

The newly installed float controls will also continue to monitor both lake and drain levels to ensure that Perry Lakes’ water levels remain as full as possible.

Civcon’s scope of works included:

  • Installation of the 280ø Pipeline via Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD)

  • Commissioning of newly installed infrastructure

  • Installation of 10 Scour and Air Valves

  • Installation of the pump station (5.5m deep excavation) within the grounds of Newman College

  • Tie-in to existing inlet and outlet pits

  • Installation of gravity fed interconnecting pipe between Perry Lakes West & East Lake

  • Installation of 3 x headwalls at Perry Lakes

  • Installation of a DN1800 GPT at Perry Lakes

  • Reinstatement works
