Civcon were the head contractor for the Stage 1 of Phase 2 of the Rottnest Island Gateway Project. The purpose of the overall Gateway Project is to enhance visitor experience and ensure the long-term sustainability of Rottnest Island, or Wadjemup.

The Stage 1 works were situated in the Settlement Mall, Heritage Common and its surrounding areas, and involved mall and amenity infrastructure upgrades, repaving, new landscaping including a new grassed and play area, installation of additional shade elements, improved signage, improved play equipment and new furniture including tables, seating and bike racks.

Completion of this stage of the Gateway project has seen activation of the full extent of the mall, and infrastructure and amenity upgrades that reduce congestion and make the mall and surrounding areas an even greener, more pleasurable, pedestrian-friendly part of the Island.
